Shadow Puppetry Museum

As a traditional folk art form in China, shadow play has a history spanning hundreds of years and carries deep cultural significance. However, this art is gradually fading from public view. Mastering the craft of shadow play often requires a lifetime of dedication, which has led to fewer young people taking it up. Today, it survives in only a handful of regions.
To help preserve and promote this invaluable tradition, I created a complete visual identity and product collection for a shadow play museum. This includes business cards, brochures, posters, manuals, packaging, and a documentary CD, along with related cultural merchandise.

The primary colour used throughout the design is beige, representing the cowhide traditionally used to craft shadow puppets. Complementary colours such as red, green, blue, and black are drawn from the costumes of shadow play figures, as well as the architecture and furniture seen in performances, evoking a rich and authentic Chinese aesthetic.
